Icy Octavia | our life

As promised, here is my other take on the recent winter weather. The morning after the storm Octavia lovingly coated our region with ice, I decided to venture out with a couple of cameras. Not just any cameras… my 2 favorites: a Rolleiflex 2.8 (circa 1959), and a Contax 645 with its stellar 80mm lens. All of...

What we are listening to this week…

Music is a huge part of our lives. John and I both feel so inspired by music.  We are listening to music constantly in our home and in our office. Currently, we are listening to Bethel’s new album, We Won’t be Shaken.  It is so powerful.   Do yourself and everyone around a favor this week...

    Slow-mo Snow | our life

I was born in Wyoming, and can faintly remember colossal amounts of snow that would drift up to the rooftops. Having migrated to the Ozarks, and now the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, the past few decades have been rather lacking in the “snow” department. I’m thankful for even the rare glimpses of winter that we get...

coffee and marriage…dabbling in latte art

“Being in a long marriage is a little bit like that nice cup of coffee every morning, I might have it every day, but I still enjoy it.” Stephen Gaines That’s a great quote. It reminds me of our marriage, in that we need to drink in the moments, and not take one another for...

status update: taking a social media time-out | personal

I’ve been trying to write these thoughts down for almost 3 weeks now, but it has been difficult to correctly put into words: I have made a personal decision give up social media. I’ve been feeling this was necessary since January, but have constantly made excuse after excuse of why it couldn’t happen. Mostly, it...

        • Ashlee GlenLindsey,

I’ve felt similarly, struggling with how to step back from social media, but still be a part of community, interact w/students, etc. It’s nice to remember that social media, although it can streamline communication, is not necessary for interaction, and is a poor replacement for face to face.

I appreciate and resonate with your thoughts 🙂ReplyCancel

          • Lindsey BamberAshlee, Thanks for your thoughts! I know…I tried the half-way, but somehow always got sucked in and spent way more time than I intended to on Social Media! I appreciate you reading this!!ReplyCancel

        Family Vacation | personal

It was one amazing and busy summer for the our family. We were privileged to photograph 18 weddings, catch fireflies, grew tons of tomatoes, zucchini, blueberries, and kale, canned 45 jars of strawberry preserves. We kept 2 pet grasshoppers, 8 princess tea-parties, hosted lots of family from out of town. We picked blackberries from our backyard...

        D-Day: 70 years | personal

I enjoy reading about history, and have always loved to travel. It’s one thing to hear about D-Day, or to see the Robert Capa’s handful of blurry images that survived. It’s another to be in the movie theatre to see Saving Private Ryan. But I’m the kind of person who always wants to go there and experience it....

off the clock in NYC | personal

I was recently in NYC for a commercial shoot, and in some of my down-time I wandered the streets, soaking up the city. While I’m more accustomed to the piercing call of our resident red-tailed hawk, the crickets chirping, and the coyotes yapping at night, there is still something comforting about the constant hum of traffic;...

          For our good…

I spent most of last week taking Lola to doctor’s appointments, hospital visits, and having numerous tests. Some of the hardest ‘mommy moments’ come  when you have to hold your child down while they scream, beg, and try to wriggle free so the doctors can do their work. I shed many tears watching her cry....
